What we do:


The ICT department’s principal role is to equip students with the necessary skills to support their learning within each subject area. Throughout their time in Junior School, pupils are given the opportunity to make use of ICT in a variety of ways. Additional opportunities for further study are also provided at GCSE and A Level.

Key Stage 3 (Year 8, 9 & 10)
Topics addressed are as follows:

Year 8:
• File management
• Introduction to LNI (Virtual Learning Environment)
• Internet Basics and Effective Search Techniques
• Word processing (Microsoft Word)
• Spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel)

Year 9:
• Image Manipulation (Adobe Photoshop)
• Desktop Publishing (Microsoft Publisher)
• Presenting Information (Microsoft PowerPoint)

Year 10:
• Databases (Microsoft Access)
• Mail merge function (Microsoft Word & Microsoft Publisher)

 
 

Key Stage 4 (Year 11 & 12)
CCEA – GCSE ICT


The course aims to encourage pupils to become more proficient in their use of ICT and to acquire a greater depth of knowledge with regard to the potential application of computers and associated technologies. A variety of opportunities are offered which allow pupils to enhance their abilities in a range of contexts whilst learning about current and emerging technologies and their impact on society. In undertaking practical tasks, pupils will learn to evaluate ICT-based solutions of their own, and will critically assess their ability to solve problems. In addition, they will learn to appreciate the need for safe, secure and responsible use of ICT.
The course is designed to provide a firm foundation for students intending to study ICT at a higher level.

AQA AS & A2 Level ICT


AS ICT is a popular choice among senior pupils despite the challenges presented at this level. AS and A2 modules incorporate practical components which seek to develop individual skills as well as acquiring knowledge of theoretical elements.

Resources:

The ICT department is serviced by three dedicated computer rooms providing access to hardware and both general purpose and subject specific software. Peripheral devices, such as digital cameras and scanners are available for coursework and extra-curricular projects.
