The chess club meets at lunch time in Mr Marshall's room (19) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It is an informal setting where pupils and staff are welcome to come and play a game of chess in a relaxed atmosphere.
There are senior members of the chess club available to assist and teach as well as supervising behaviour.
We have also combined our House Chess Competition with entrance to ‘The British Land Chess Challenge 2011’. This year seven of our players have qualified for the MegaFinal, held in Methodist College. These players are; David Obasi; Ian Craig; Chris Hughes, Peter Mitchell; Philip Martin; Jack Cahoon and Sam Brodison.
The 2010/2011 House Competition was dominated with players from Castle and so they won the most points for participating house but the Knockagh won the prize for best average house score. In the individual house awards for the top four players saw Castle gaining both first and second place with Knockagh picking up third and fourth.
So come along and see what the Chess Club is all about.....
