Carrickfergus Grammar draws it's pupils from 25 feeder schools stretching from Islandmagee and Ballynure to the suburbs of Belfast. We have very good relations with all of our Primary Schools and try to make the transition from Primary to Grammar School as painless as possible. We do this in the following ways:-
Primary School Liaison Teachers
Mr S Martin and Mr P Irwin are the main link teachers with the Primary Schools. They are in charge of organising the P6 Open Day. (see details below)
They also visit the P7 pupils of each School in January to give a Presentation about Carrickfergus Grammar, publicise details of our Open Evening, answer any questions and visit again in June to help ease the transition from Primary to Post Primary education.
P6 Open Day
This takes place towards the end of June and gives pupils at the end of P6 an opportunity to sample life at Carrickfergus Grammar with PE, Music, Science, Technology, HE, Languages and ICT all on the Timetable.
Our French and Spanish Departments already have contact with a small number of Primary Schools during the European Day of Languages. It is hoped that more Schools will be involved this year.
